Kerr McGee/Quivira Mines: Teracita Keyanna

In this oral testimony, Teracita Keyanna shares her experiences growing up in the Red Water Pond Road Community, near multiple uranium mines, processing sites, waste sites, and the Church Rock Uranium Mill spill, the worst accidental release of radioactivity in the United States.

"I have lived in [the Red Water Pond Road] community since I was born. The community was impacted by uranium issues since the 30s…It was kind of like that turning point where we starting thinking, maybe it would be safer if we maybe move into town. It was just kind of a thought for a while….So my husband and I made that decision to move into Gallup, to get my children away from that contaminated area….I mean, I miss home so bad. I miss the quiet. I miss being able to just not have to worry about locking my door. I miss being able to just climb up the mesa."
